House Extension Project Poole
Introduction:
We were commissioned by our client to undertake a significant renovation project at their property in Poole. The scope of the project included the construction of a side house extension and a complete kitchen refurbishment. The existing conservatory, which had become dilapidated and no longer served the client’s needs, was to be removed. In its place, we were tasked with building a new 25 square meter single-story extension.
The primary goal of this extension was to create a spacious, open-plan kitchen and dining area that would enhance the functionality and aesthetics of the home. This involved meticulous planning and execution to ensure that the new structure seamlessly integrated with the existing building while meeting modern standards of design and energy efficiency.
The open-plan kitchen diner was designed to offer a versatile and inviting space for both everyday living and entertaining. By utilizing high-quality materials and innovative construction techniques, we aimed to deliver a durable and stylish extension that would significantly improve the client’s living experience. This project exemplified our commitment to transforming outdated spaces into contemporary, practical, and visually appealing areas tailored to our client’s specific needs and lifestyle.

Ground Works Commenced
After removing the conservatory, we began digging the footings, ensuring they were 600mm wide and at least 450mm deep. For the underground structure, we used super-strong trench blocks to guarantee stability and durability. The oversight was constructed with a 100mm layer of Celotex for excellent insulation. This was topped with a 1200 gauge damp-proof course (DPC) to protect against moisture. Finally, we poured 100mm of C35 concrete to create a robust and solid foundation.

Blockwork & Cladded exterior
Following the initial phase, we constructed the walls using a combination of Celcon and concrete blocks to ensure durability and strength. To enhance the aesthetic appeal, we clad the exterior with high-quality Canadian cedar, which also offers excellent resistance to weathering. For the roof, we opted for a warm roof construction, a method known for its superior insulation properties. This design includes a large electric lantern, providing ample natural light to the interior spaces. To complete the roofing, we used EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), a durable and weather-resistant material that guarantees long-lasting protection against the elements. The combination of these materials and construction techniques resulted in a robust, energy-efficient, and visually appealing structure that meets high standards of functionality and design.

Interior Finishing
After completing the shell and ensuring it was weatherproof, we installed a Howdens kitchen featuring quartz countertops, integrated appliances, and a double oven. We also created a media wall designed to accommodate a TV and fireplace. The flooring was laid in a herringbone pattern using durable vinyl for a stylish and hard-wearing finish. Additionally, the windows and doors were crafted from anthracite aluminum, adding a modern and sleek touch to the overall design.
